This was one of my grandmother Nannie's favorite sayings. With Thanksgiving upon us, now is the time to be glad for all the blessings you've got. Do you have good health? Can you see, hear and get up and walk outside if you want to? Do you have food in the cupboard? It may not be your first choice, but if there's anything there, be grateful.
Have you got a job? Even if you hate it and the pay isn't that great, there are many unemployed people who would jump at the chance to have your job. Got a roof over your head? If you said yes to all the above, you, my dear friend, are rich! The poorest Americans live better than a lot of people in third world countries. If you can't afford a car, but have a roof over your head and eat once a day, those people would call you rich.
So while we're all pigging out on turkey, sweet potatoes, pies and whatever decadent goodies you have, don't forget to be thankful for all the great things you have. You can lose them in the blink of an eye.
I am truly grateful for the full house and cupboards that I am blessed with day-to-day. As a child, times were tough but mom found a way to make it through. She is gone, and now most of all, I am grateful for the time we shared through the good and the bad.
ReplyDeleteThank you for encouraging these simple reminders that we so often take for granted.
Cheers,
Perry
I've always said if you have good health and something to eat, you can't complain. Every day as a nurse I see people with terrible health, and I wouldn't trade places with them for all the money in the world. It's a good reminder about how blessed we really are. Mom said growing up poor is the best thing that ever happened to her, because you learn how to save and live with what you have.
